About Kerala State Chalachitra Academy
Kerala State Chalachitra Academy was formed as a Society rooted in the Government in 1997 under the Travancore – Cochin Charitable Societies Act 1936. Most important art form of contemporary human society, cinema has been found to influence its ethos more than any other art form. Hence Government has a responsibility to ensure the well – being of all stake – holders of cinema and making of better cinema year after year. Thus, taking cues from the report of Sivarama Karanth Committee appointed by the Central Government for submitting proposals for the proper rejuvenation of film industry at the national level, the Academy was formed in the State.
A General Council consisting of the leading spirits of the art form and the industry is the Governing Body of the Academy. It gives approval for the policies and programs of the Academy, and gives guidance for its effective functioning.
